As more campuses adopt the practice of using flexible space, classrooms must be equipped to meet a wide range of needs. A room that is used for an economics course in the morning should be capable of converting to a space that will support a student government meeting in the evening. Falcon’s chairs and tables can be equipped with options that provide mobility. Many of our products are stackable, come with casters, can be folded or nested. This allows a user to configure a classroom to meet any need in just a matter of minutes.

The modern college is home to a cultural shift. As the physical and digital worlds converge, students need space that enables collaboration and encourages a sense of community. Our products, which can be customized for any type of project, are designed with active learning in mind. For more information about Falcon’s approach to this concept, download our resource guide, Design for Active Learning, or take a look at this Informational Graphic, which explains why students perform better in contemporary classrooms.

In an economic environment where adhering to budgets is critical, colleges and universities find that our tables and chairs are competitively priced and, due to their durable construction and timeless design, will last longer than many similar products found in the marketplace.

All of our products are available in a variety of finishes and fabrics. Contact us today to learn how Falcon products can serve the needs of any contemporary college or university community.

Students may spend hours in a dining area doing work or browsing the Internet. For that reason, we’ve seen a shift in how these spaces are designed. They no longer resemble a school lunchroom, but instead have been transformed into stylish, comfortable restaurants. Indeed, students who attend these institutions expect a vibrant and appealing dining experience. That’s why colleges and universities have made unprecedented investments in renovating old dining halls and building sparkling new ones.

Some of the nation’s top universities – including Auburn University, the University of Wisconsin and Troy University – have relied on Falcon products to enhance their students’ on-campus experience.

Take a look at Falcon products in action on the campus of Troy University. The project includes Falcon’s tables, chairs, custom booths, and wall benches. We are proud to help the university achieve its goal of “a facility that would rival a five star restaurant in construction and design.”

Falcon products offer timeless design and durable construction, ensuring they become a permanent fixture in university cafés, dining halls and student unions. Products can be configured in a myriad of ways to create a space that encourages collaboration and community.

Our tables come in a wide array of finishes and feature bases made of steel, wood, or cast iron that complete the look of any dining space. Similarly, our booths are available in dozens of colors, fabrics and upholstery options, allowing designers tremendous flexibility to exact their vision over a project, creating a unique dining experience. Let our experienced team work with you to select furniture that meets the demands of your space. Contact us today for more information.

No two commercial spaces are the same, so why should you be sold a one-size-fits-all solution? It is critical to strike the proper balance between innovative design and its ultimate use.

There are 4 key components:

1. Function First

How the furniture will be used is extremely important for determining what kind of furniture is needed and how many pieces are required. To understand function, questions must be asked and answered: How many people will utilize the space? What are the current traffic patterns and flow of the room, and do they need to be improved to better align with the new room’s use? How much connectivity is needed for each piece of furniture? What type of interactions will occupants of the space regularly have?

Each answer helps determines the type and style of furniture that must be
purchased to achieve the desired outcome.

2. Shape

There typically are five room shapes: rectangle, square, oblong, L-shaped or odd-angled rooms in which corners are cut at very specific angles apart from 90 degrees. Although the shapes may be fixed, there may be myriad uses for that space that our company expertise can help you determine. The room shape helps determine the proper chair, the right size table, the needed accessories, and the way the furniture pieces interact so that the space is utilized for maximum comfort and usability.

3. Focal point

If the space is a lecture hall or a meeting room, what is the directional communication needed? In many settings an architectural focal point is part of the structure of the room. A podium or a large presentation screen is such a focal point. Chairs and tables need to be arranged in the space, keeping in mind the occupancy requirements, so that everyone has visual and audible access to that focal point. Or if you’re starting from scratch in your room, Falcon can help you create your own focal point and build a furniture plan around it.

4. Layout

Basic design principles typically begin by placing the largest seating areas and tables opposite the room’s focal point. But it’s really dependent on the client’s usage for the space. In a classroom setting, if the instructor will be roaming as part of an active learning environment, the focal point isn’t an object but an objective. You will want all members of that classroom interacting with the instructor no matter where the instructor is in the room. And by creating that active layout, classroom members will be able to interact with one another as well. These learning spaces and meeting spaces are also social spaces where collaboration and teamwork should easily take place.

Falcon provides technology-driven and research-based solutions to utilize each of these four key components and create the right solution for your company or institution. For example, Falcon CURV, MATS, and Syntech Table Collections can be configured into settings desired for today’s active learning environments. The flexible and myriad shapes allow classrooms and meeting space to transition from passive lecture approaches to spaces that support multiple types of learning and communication: immersive, blended, integrated, and collaborative.

Falcon products are designed to fit any space, offering premium functionality and flexibility. Each space is different, the technology and communication needs of each client is unique. There’s no one size fits all. Falcon will custom-fit that special space, working with most any material, finish, or specification — all that’s needed is a photograph, a sketch, or a CAD drawing.

Contact us today and let us show you the Falcon solution. You can have unique style, fabulous design and the functionality you need — no matter what space you’re trying to properly fit.

As teaching and learning on college and university campuses continue to change, so too must the classroom environment. A host of studies and research projects has proven one simple fact:
Learning and retention can be a direct reflection of the educational surroundings.

As educators work to accommodate and enhance their students’ varied learning styles, it seems natural to think strategically about the influence of surroundings on the success, failure and growth of a student over the course of a college semester. As instructors incorporate innovative teaching methods, similarly innovative room design can enhance collaboration and conversation among students.

At the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at Texas Wesleyan University, faculty and students worked to design concepts for a unique learning space. Based on the designs and renderings, it quickly became clear that students, faculty and administrators all sought space offering high levels of flexibility and interactivity.

Project participants understood that creating physical space and energy would help to build and enhance discussion, unlike current classroom arrangements that typically feature lecture-style configurations. By opening the space to not only encourage, but support, a learning environment where inquiry is welcome, students feel comfortable to ask the questions traditional classroom design can suppress. It’s also important to note that collaboration in pods, circles and groups mirrors the common practice of sharing ideas and information online and through social media. In other words, students can better relate to some classroom arrangements over others.

Falcon’s line of chairs and tables fit comfortably with the mission of learning and growing through collaboration. We offer folding tables and stackable chairs that are easily moved about a classroom, to meet the needs of any course. Our products confer a highly-customizable solution for community colleges and four-year universities seeking to create the modern learning environment that fosters conversation and community.

Universities must consider this reality, and equip their rooms with furniture that is multifunctional and easily adaptable to the myriad ways a room might be used on any given day.

College campuses traditionally outfitted rooms for one purpose. A classroom was a classroom; a meeting room was a meeting room. But given the realities of budget cuts, booming enrollment and limited space, higher education institutions must maximize the potential for every room on campus. At most universities, it’s common to find students using a lecture hall as the venue for a club meeting – despite the fact that a lecture hall is ill-suited for that application.

Instead, universities must recognize the need to outfit rooms on campus for multiple uses. As the Massachusetts Institute of Technology has recognized, education is ubiquitous. It can happen anywhere at any time. “It requires collaborative settings,” MIT notes, “where students cluster together to learn not only by doing, but by doing together.”

Falcon’s line of tables and chairs empower this mission of group learning and doing. Our produces are nimble, and can be used in multiple applications, in a wide range of spaces. Curv™ tables, pictured above, are particularly well-suited for multipurpose rooms at universities, such as a small classroom that doubles as a meeting space for campus organizations. The tables are light, highly configurable and able to stand up to daily use.

Dr. Bookout advised, that the committee was focused on a premium high-end design and wanted furniture that would support this design concept, while meeting budget requirements and providing good quality products, built to last for years of service in this environment. He stated,
“Falcon met the requirements. We felt Falcon’s products would enhance the facility and compliment the design, as well as provide a durable product. Falcon met our expectations.”

The 80,000 sq. ft. Trojan Dining facility seats over 1,000 students and includes five self-serve food service stations, as well as two retail restaurants. It features a combination of dining tables and chairs for a relaxed meal or meeting and study space, stand up tables and barstools sprinkled throughout for easy collaboration, and multiple areas incorporating custom booths and wallbenches providing cozy nooks for more private eating or study space. The design incorporates chairs and barstools which feature the durability of a metal frame and the warmth of wood seats and backs. The contemporary tables also feature a wood and cast iron combination for warmth and durability. The Exclusive Dining room, fashioned after a five star restaurant, features unique diamond box veneer table tops, with combination wood and cast iron bases, contemporary wood seating and custom booths, creating a high-end restaurant environment.

The Trojan Dining facility is not just for students and faculty. It is open to the public, keeping the University at the center of the Community. Click here to see more images.
