What makes Verona so comfortable?

Designed by Paolo Orlandini and Roberto Lucci, the Falcon Verona chair’s Isoflex™ mechanism creates an ergonomically superior, stackable chair. The Isoflex™ Contour Zone insures proper spine alignment for long lasting comfort. The contoured seat and back provides lumbar support and cradles the back. Verona automatically adjusts to the user. The rear of the seat tilts up as chair back flexes backwards, allowing reduction of pressure to upper legs.

There are 4 key components:

1.  Function First

How the furniture will be used is extremely important for determining what kind of furniture is needed and how many pieces are required. To understand function, questions must be asked and answered: How many people will utilize the space? What are the current traffic patterns and flow of the room, and do they need to be improved to better align with the new room’s use? How much connectivity is needed for each piece of furniture? What type of interactions will occupants of the space regularly have?

Each answer helps determines the type and style of furniture that must be

2.  Shape

There typically are five room shapes: rectangle, square, oblong, L-shaped or odd-angled rooms in which corners are cut at very specific angles apart from 90 degrees. 3.  Focal point

4.  Layout

Basic design principles typically begin by placing the largest seating areas and tables opposite the room’s focal point. But it’s really dependent on the client’s usage for the space. You will want all members of that classroom interacting with the instructor no matter where the instructor is in the room. And by creating that active layout, classroom members will be able to interact with one another as well. Throughout the past 50 years, higher education in the United States has seen a tremendous evolution from large, lecture-based courses to small group sessions and individual mentoring. As teaching and learning on college and university campuses continue to change, so too must the classroom environment. A host of studies and research projects has proven one simple fact:

Learning and retention can be a direct reflection of the educational surroundings. 

As educators work to accommodate and enhance their students’ varied learning styles, it seems natural to think strategically about the influence of surroundings on the success, failure and growth of a student over the course of a college semester. At the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at Texas Wesleyan University, faculty and students worked to design concepts for a unique learning space. Based on the designs and renderings, it quickly became clear that students, faculty and administrators all sought space offering high levels of flexibility and interactivity.

Project participants understood that creating physical space and energy would help to build and enhance discussion, unlike current classroom arrangements that typically feature lecture-style configurations. By opening the space to not only encourage, but support, a learning environment where inquiry is welcome, students feel comfortable to ask the questions traditional classroom design can suppress. It’s also important to note that collaboration in pods, circles and groups mirrors the common practice of sharing ideas and information online and through social media. In other words, students can better relate to some classroom arrangements over others.

When Troy University planned its first new dining facility in over 40 years, they came to Falcon for their furniture needs.  “Our goal was to build a facility that would rival a five star restaurant in construction and design, as well as the foodservice operation,” said Dr. Jim Bookout, Sr. Vice Chancellor for Finance and Business Affairs, who chaired the Project Design Committee. ”Our goal was to design and build a dining facility that addresses contemporary diversity for a homogenous student population.  The New Trojan Dining facility accomplished that because it will help shape our campus climate and the climate in turn will shape the sociocultural environment of the campus. “

Dr. Bookout advised, that the committee was focused on a premium high-end design and wanted furniture that would support this design concept, while meeting budget requirements and providing good quality products, built to last for years of service in this environment.  He stated,

“Falcon met the requirements.  We felt Falcon’s products would enhance the facility and compliment the design, as well as provide a durable product.  Falcon met our expectations.”

The 80,000 sq. ft. Trojan Dining facility seats over 1,000 students and includes five self-serve food service stations, as well as two retail restaurants.  It features a combination of dining tables and chairs for a relaxed meal or meeting and study space, stand up tables and barstools sprinkled throughout for easy collaboration, and multiple areas incorporating custom booths and wallbenches providing cozy nooks for more private eating or study space.  The design incorporates chairs and barstools which feature the durability of a metal frame and the warmth of wood seats and backs.  The contemporary tables also feature a wood and cast iron combination for warmth and durability.  The Exclusive Dining room, fashioned after a five star restaurant, features unique diamond box veneer table tops, with combination wood and cast iron bases, contemporary wood seating and custom booths, creating a high-end restaurant environment.
